Torn feet

28/5/2014

So much I have

travelled

walking all alone

looking for something

something I should have

known

All the roads

are empty

travelled by a few

looking for something

perhaps it is you

though my feet

are torn

I'll keep on

walking

hoping for something

something less than

scorn

So much I have

traveled

lost without a

home

looking for something

forever all alone

torn heart

torn feet

walking all alone

to emptinesses strident

beat

52W13 week27 - Blur

26/5/2014

Picture

Moments move past in a rapid stream
pulling me under, dragging me down
drawing me deeper and deeper to darker dreams
fighting and urging myself back
clawing up against the current so dark
drawing breath as I break through the mirrored surface
sense afire, tears burn my eyes
clouding my vision, as my sight begins to die
blurring and fading all that I see
leaving a mark, spiderwebbed eyes
can't take the past that means so much to me
wondering about the future
so many moments yet to come
ready to drown me once again
however I am not done learning how to swim
draw me down once more
I will shall rise up to clarity
where the light is not dim

The image above captures the blurring of my vision after a bad bacterial infection. It came on rapidly and in a day left me with a cataract in my left eye. The infection is slowly coming under control, however it is spreading to my right eye. Rather than cry about how unfair life is, I choose to be positive and take this a challenge and learn from it.

52W13 week26 - Somewhere than Nowhere

18/5/2014

52W13 week26
Roads going somewhere are better than nowhere
Blurred windows rushing on past
Lights leaving footprints in the wet
traces of movement not destined to last
Mixed signals command attention
not sure if its stop or let go
drivers destined to follow legalised conventions
mute passengers follow or are dragged
pulled pushed from place to place
better to be going somewhere rather than nowhere
hurry up move along enjoy the race

Ruthless - Book Review

16/5/2014

Ruthless by Esther Krogdahl
I recently had the pleasure of reading Esther Krogdahl’s first book, Ruthless. A modern action fantasy that places the heroine,Ruth Wroth, in a corporate setting, where Heaven and Hell each have earth based Corporations. The book rapidly moves through exiting her job in a mundane company job as the head of HR, to taking a position with GlobalCore as one the section HR managers, putting a more final touch on terminations.
I enjoyed the rapid development of Ruth’s character as she moved through the book, revealing to the reader that under her harsh business armour, she had a softer human side that was often pressed down by achieving results within her role as the HR Manager. It would have been good to get to know the other characters a bit more and explore them as a reader, though as the focus was primarily on Ruth and her journey, the author can be forgiven. The other characters that exist within the book offer tantalising glimpses of well formed characters, though due rapid movement of the plot, the reader is only offered that.

The concept of Heaven and Hell as earthly incorporations and that primary office holders are Angels is truly intriguing. Those that work within big corporations, or associate with them can easily relate to the books especially the professional driven Nature of Ruth. Ruthless creates opportunities for examining further inter-office plays, policies and procedural overhead that plague most companies but with the added spin of action fantasy.

Apart from the fleeting character development, Ruthless is a well written book that introduces to world author has created and as you approach the end of the book, leaves you hanging and wanting for more. I must admit I am keenly awaiting the next release and getting to know the world better and explore the primary characters a a lot more. Please please write more!!!!

Ruthless is available from Amazon and other various online bookstores.

You can also follow Esther Krogdahl on Wattpad or via her blog to keep up to date with her next release.

52W13 week25 - Can't fit your mold

11/5/2014

52W13 Week25 - Can't fit your mould
Don't keep me hanging, cause I'm the odd one out
tried to change my spots, sing a different song
words may be different and the melody may grow old
but I am still the same where it counts
even though I can't fit your mold
take a chance on the difference
walk away from all the same
dance along with me, listen to my song
I won't wear their suits
being different, it's not to blame
what I am, is what I am
take a chance on the difference
better than all the same

Darkness once gaped

8/5/2014

Shuttered eyes and the light drains away

Darkness takes control in the absence of colour

Lighting flashes of blue and gray

Shatter the quiet I seek behind

Barriers of flesh, so very thin

No rest found in my templed mind

Won't let the light in

Can't open the shutters

Rather fill the dark on the lightning's whim

Grasping, forming, taking shape

Pulling memories and song

Where the darkness once gaped

My sanctuary is lit from within

Rather than without

I provide the music, light the candles

As my soul comes out

52W13 week24 - Typoglycemia

4/5/2014

Picture
rivers bouncing and tumbling out of my mind
torrential downpour spewing forth
drowning, flooding, consuming whatever I write
grammar is swamped and spelling is gone
messages in the writing for those that can decipher
agitated vibrations jiggle my attention
hoping that the words find rest
hiatus, deltaic slowing and segregation
proximal and distal sorted sizing
orientation subjective based on placement
typoglycemic dreams crash down
resting at last in static rest

I thought the image and words fitting, as it marks the update and refresh of my blog from kensummers.com.au to typoglycemia.com.au. My words are often jumbled, my regards for grammar, subjective. The message is often more important than how I arrange the words, though sometimes the message is lost in the noise.
